ZOSTRIX CREAM 45g
Zostrix is a highly purified form of topical capsaicin (red chilli pepper) in a cream.
Active Ingredients: Capsaicin USP 0.025% w/w
Dosage: The best way to use Zostrix is to apply a small amount to the affected joint three or four times a day. Because Zostrix works differently from other painkillers its effect builds up gradually over a period of about 4 weeks. The important point is to persist with Zostrix for at least 4 weeks and then you should really notice the pain blocking effect. You may feel a burning sensation when you first apply the cream, which is normal and usually disappears with time and regular use.
Warnings: Avoid contact with the eyes or broken or damaged skin. Do not bandage tightly. If condition worsens of clears up and then recurs within a few days, discontinue use of this product and consult your physician.
Purpose: When Zostrix is applied to joints with osteoarthritis it has been proven in rigorous clinical trials to reduce pain by over 50%, and also importantly improve tenderness of joint movement.
Unlike other painkillers Zostrix works by reducing the amount of a chemical in the nerves and joints called substance P. Substance P is thought to be particularly important in arthritis because it occurs in high concentrations in the lining of joints, as well as in nerve fibres which conduct pain messages.
Because it has virtually no other effects, and because it is applied to the outside of the joint, rather than taken by mouth, Zostrix is very unlikely to cause general side effects and does not interact with other medications that you may be taking.
